Which type of fire extinguisher is the best to be used?

AxelFire safety

There is a golden rule:

A burning fryer should be extinguished with a grease extinguisher. A fire in the electrical line should be extinguished with a CO2 extinguisher. For a burning armchair, you can choose between foam, powder and water extinguishing agent. Sure … right? These golden tips will help you to make the right choice in emergency situations.

Imagine: It is burning and you want to extinguish the fire. What do you have to do? Our golden rule is to take the fire extinguisher, which is nearest to the fireplace. In a technical room, you will find other fire extinguishers than in a kitchen or office. You can therefore assume that the extinguisher, which is located near the erupting fireplace, is suitable for extinguishing.

In addition, it is marked on the fire extinguisher, for which type of fire extinguishing it is intended. Find out more specifically for which fire classes you should use which fire extinguisher.

There are six fire classes, each with its own symbol:

  • Fire class A: solids such as paper, wood, textiles, coal
  • Fire class B: Liquids (and melting solids) such as acetone, gasoline, diesel, paint
  • Fire class C: gases such as natural gas, LPG, propane, butane
  • Fire class D: metal such as magnesium, aluminum
  • Fire class E: Electric cables
  • Fire class F: greases and (frying) oils

Therefore, check quickly the fire classes of the fire extinguisher to ensure that you can extinguish the fire efficiently.
